Build in Public
Oktant is a Build in Public initiative, meaning that the design and implementation journey is openly shared with the community. This includes the tooling, technologies and build process used to get Oktant to a fully functional web and mobile experience, showcasing the steps to building a platform from scratch using modern AI-native software development practices.
Each episode documents a chapter in the Oktant story, inviting members of the Oktant crew to co-create the future of the platform that helps them thrive.
The Beginning
In the first episode of the Build in Public video series, I introduce Oktant through the creation of a simple landing page built with Firebase Studio. The intention in this first step is to test the concept quickly and cheaply, soliciting user feedback and interest in the platform before committing to the time and effort of building out the entire experience
Taking Shape
In the second episode, I dive into designing and building a prototype to test with users. While I had originally considered building a simple mockup for users to get a feel for the flow of the app, I went a bit further by creating a functional prototype that showcased working features of the app, all saved to session state. The build-out was simplified and accelerated through the use of Google's Antigravity IDE and other AI tools.
Ready to Launch
In the third episode, I take you through the steps I took to go from the web app prototype to a functioning web and mobile experience deployed to the Google Play Store and Apple App Store, and how the Oktant tech stack evolved over the journey.
Episode 4 — Coming soon 🚀
Stay tuned for the next chapter of the Oktant build journey.
